So I bought a 09 Cobalt about a month and a half ago, and the used car dealer that sold it to me gave me a bill of sale and a 60 day tag, then said the title was going to be mailed to me over electronic title transfer. Well, it's been almost 50 days already and I haven't got a title to it yet. I called the tag office and they said the dealer is required to provide titling documents before 30 days, but I called the dealer and they told me I would definitely get the title before the temporary tag expires. How should I proceed? My 60 day tag is almost up...

Keep calling and annoying.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves with dealers.
You pay $250 for a non-negotiable "paperwork fee" and get your title weeks later, where with a private sale you can get your new title THAT DAY.

call the dealer all the time. let them know your tag is expiring. Let them know again and again.

It depends on the state but I know in Ohio you can make a complaint to the Attorney General I believe.

Try getting another 60day tag from the dealership for free if they can't be bothered to get your title to the dmv.

Keep nagging. Don't let up. I had to do the same when I bought my car in November. Dealer said they'd mail the plates to me (it was on a 2-week temp tag, and I live about an hour and a half from the dealer), they didn't, but said they would. Called again, they said they had. Called again when they didn't show up, and was told that they were sitting right there. They finally mailed them that time.

That's usually a problem with your government and the dealer can't work around that.

you will most likely get it on the 59 day

Eh, I was on a dealer tag for 2 mos and (at the time it was 30day tags) for another 4 months when I bought my truck, that was in early 2000's though.

Nag them, call them twice a day, leave messages during off hours if you have to. Just don't let them forget and neglect you.
Oh, and always be polite. Firm, but polite.

It's entirely possible you'll still get the tag in the 60 day period. Like others are saying, just keep bugging the dealership.

It's the dealers fault for being to lazy to do your paperwork. What dealer is it? Hound on them daily until they do their shit or have them issue you another 60 day tag. I've bought enough vehicles now to know to just get a title in hand.
Also, why did you buy a Cobalt? I don't mean to be rude, but you had a Miata, MR2, and I think a WRX, if I remember. It's seems an oddly un-enthusiast choice.
If you need a good Sedgwick county tag, let me know.

eCars on Seneca and 47th S.
The WRX I sold because its limits were way too high for public roads. It was gonna get me in trouble with the law at some point or another, plus fuel economy wasn't the best, plus premium gas, plus turbo lag. It was a great car, very practical, and excellent handling, but I think I'd make better use of a base model impreza (currently on the lookout for) with a stick. I actually would like to get a 2.5rs, but they're unicorns round these parts.
The MR2 I sold because it didn't have a backseat (same reason I currently have the Miata for sale), which I'll need when I go on my roadtrip later this year. Plus it was in too good condition to beat on it (autox) or leave it outside (I don't have a garage).
The cobalt on the other hand, is slow car fast, shitty car fun. Plus it's one of the only 7 or so cobalts ever equipped with a stick, which has surprisingly good feel to it (hell, maybe even better than the MR2's), so it gets 31mpg no matter how much you beat on it, and with a little bit of trail braking, you can get the tail to step out at 30mph, aka legal speeds.
And what do you mean a good tag? Like a 60 day? or another car's tag? Also, keep me on the loop for the next meetup!

I just have 1 or 2 good normal Kansas tags that expire at the end of July. They wouldn't be correct to your car, but I figured I'd offer. And hell, I still have missed all the meetups. I'd love to go.

Thanks, but in that case I still have the MR2's tag, or even the Miata's, which expires at the end of July. I think there's a show every friday or so. Ask Jake, he'd probably know better than I do.
